Five days after after the crash that put Tiger Woods in the spotlight for something other than golf, the world's highest paid athlete took a swing at putting the rumors to rest, using his website to admit what he calls "transgressions" and apologizing to his family and fans.
In the written statement, Woods says:
"I have not been true to my values...I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family."
Woods also writes about how he has been hounded by the recent tabloid reports of alleged infidelity and says, "The stories in particular that physical violence played any role in the car accident were utterly false and malicious."
He asks for privacy and ends with a promise to be the husband and father his family deserves and an apology to those who have supported him.
The admission comes on the day Woods' charity golf tournament teed off in California without its host, who bowed out after the accident.
Meanwhile, the Florida Highway Patrol released its written report and pictures detailing Woods' trip from his driveway into a neighbor's tree early Friday morning.
After almost a week of silence and speculation, the biggest question now: Can the golfer known for amazing saves on the course turn a tarnished image back into gold?
