Making the case for affirmative action

Amos Williams is a retired Detroit police lieutenant, trial lawyer, and Vietnam veteran. In this video he explains his explains his experience with racism on the police force and why he believes affirmative action is necessary.

"There was still people who had problem at all deciding that I was a boy," said Williams. "That's why it was so necessary to use affirmative action to promote and advance minorities through the ranks so they were at the table and had input there."

Williams believes circumstances for African-Americans have improved during his lifetime and certainly since his father's, but he still thinks that there's significant work to be done in order to achieve equality. Until that happens, Williams says affirmative action policies should be upheld.
