Players on a Michigan high school football team have thrown in their jerseys -- literally -- after an assistant coach allegedly posted fliers in the team's locker room that contained racial slurs.

Dozens of people turned out for a school board meeting Monday where the incident was the hot topic of discussion.

While some parents and many players spoke in support of the coach, others were against him.

In the end, the school board voted to fire the assistant coach, who is the brother of the head coach at the high school.

The board alleges Denny Howard posted the fliers containing racial overtones and tried to make them appear they were the work of a rival team's coach.

Team members said they would not play if their coach were fired and left their jerseys on the floor at the meeting in protest.

In the end, the school board voted to fire the assistant coach. They voted to let the head coach finish the season and after that, he will be suspended.
