Delray Beach, FL - A Haitian woman who narrowly escaped the sinking of a smuggler's boat two weeks ago has now given birth to a healthy baby boy in a Florida hospital. Lexilia Lexidort was pregnant when she made the dangerous trip across the ocean. The boat capsized off the Florida coast. Unable to swim, she floated helplessly in the ocean for hours.
Finally she heard the whirl of helicopters overhead and the roar of motorboats. Concerned about her unborn baby, Lexilia told rescuers she was pregnant. Lexilia decided to name her son after the biblical figure Moses, because she described her ordeal and his birth as a miracle. She hopes she will be able to stay in the United States. However, she said that if she has to return to Haiti, so will her son.
