From Vanity Fair:
Precious screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher grew up in Waterford, Connecticut, the third son of a school principal and a submarine technician. He played football for Harvard, attended New York University's Tisch Graduate Film Program, and taught screenwriting and directing at Columbia. As Claireece Precious Jones, the main character of his Oscar-nominated adaptation of Sapphire's novel Push, might say, "He talks like people on TV shows I don't watch."
Yet just two years ago, he was still invisible in the film world, struggling for any kind of break after 15 years in the industry. He spoke to Little Gold Men about his "overnight" success story, and the friendship he's formed with one of his main rivals in the best-adapted-screenplay category.
