From BlackAmericaWeb:

The country of Ghana has made history in the Winter Olympic games. Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampong is the first athlete from West Africa to qualify for the Winter Games.

Born in scotland, the 35-year-old is a one-man team who taught himself how to ski only six years ago. He will compete in the slalom and giant slalom competition in Canada.

Building sponsorship was not easy for Nkrumah-Acheampong. On his own, he had to build the faith of local companies to raise the funds needed for training and competition. But using his two university degrees, he cleverly made his mark by designing a white spotted leopard training suit, earning the knickname "The Snow Leopard." Those who donate a minimum of five pounds see their names converted into a spot on his uniform. The sponsors are called Kwame's Army.
