CNBC's Shartia Brantley reports that the financial markets will be closed for New Year's Day, but there's economic news to analyze before ringing in 2010. We'll find out with the October Home Price Index, which tracks home prices in 20 metro areas such as Atlanta, Cleveland and Detroit. The last report showed a 0.3 percent increase in home prices.

We'll check in on business with the latest Chicago purchasing manager's index, which tracks business activity in the Chicago area and serves as a barometer for overall economic activity. The last report showed an increase to 56.1 percent.

Do you think the economy is improving? We'll find out with the December Consumer Confidence Report. The last report showed an improvement in confidence over the previous month as fewer consumers expected the jobs market to worsen.
