CNBC's Shartia Brantley reports that the earnings reports from Best Buy, Nike and cereal maker General Mills will provide insight on consumer spending trends. The Federal Reserve convenes for a two-day meeting to discuss whether to increase the fed funds rate. We'll get the December home builder confidence survey, the November report was virtually flat from the previous month, as builders feared the expiration of the first time "Homebuyer Tax Credit":http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=204671,00.html. We'll also get the November housing starts report, new home construction fell 10.6 percent in October. We'll find out with the latest "Consumer Price Index":http://www.bls.gov/CPI/ numbers if consumer prices are on the rise, the October report showed a slight increase of 0.3 percent.
