CNBC's Shartia Brantley reports that the last retail sales report showed a sales increase of 2.7 percent, autos posted the biggest gains. The August consumer price index report showed inflation rose by 0.4 percent. The last National Federation of Independent businesses survey showed small businesses were more optimistic about future sales but had no major plans on hiring workers.
