Sharpton: 'Don't mistake progress for arrival'

WASHINGTON (AP) -- One rally in the nation's capital is over, and another under way.

From the marble steps of the Lincoln Memorial, conservative commentator Glenn Beck and tea party champion Sarah Palin appealed to a vast, predominantly white crowd on the National Mall to help restore traditional American values and honor Martin Luther King's message. A group of civil rights leaders, organized by the Rev. Al Sharpton, accused the group of hijacking King's legacy and held their own rally and march.

The dueling rallies come on the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech at the Lincoln Memorial.

Sharpton told his rally it's important to keep King's dream alive, and that despite progress more needs to be done. He said "Don't mistake progress for arrival."
