WASHINGTON (AP) -- Remember the moment at Michael Jackson's memorial when Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas held up a framed resolution she was sponsoring -- and hoping the House of Representatives would approve? That might be the last we'll see of it.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has shut down efforts for a resolution to honor Jackson because debate on the subject could raise what she calls "contrary views" about the pop star's life.
The resolution from Jackson Lee cites the singer's charitable acts and proclaims him an American legend, musical icon and world humanitarian. But another Congressman, Peter King, has posted a video on YouTube, calling Jackson a "pervert" and a "pedophile." He has pledged to do all he could to block the resolution.
