It's the toughest polling news for President Obama since he took office. The latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows that Americans are worried.
Barack Obama's approval rating has dipped to 47 percent from 60 percent early on and 55 percent of those polled say the country is on the wrong track.
Peter Morici, an economic analyst from the University of Maryland said, "Americans suspect that they're a nation in decline."
The public has soured on health care reform as the debate has dragged on. Only 32 percent think the President's plan is a good idea, while 47 percent say it's a bad idea.
Analysts also say the economy has poisoned the mood.
The poll shows the conservative leaning Tea Party movement is now more popular than either Democrats or Republicans.
