NASHUA, N.H. (AP) -- President Barack Obama appears to be heeding pleas from his party to take on the Republicans.

In a visit to New Hampshire today, Obama used some of his toughest language yet to paint Republicans as electoral opportunists who will switch positions to score points with voters.

He criticized Republicans for opposing a bill to create a bipartisan commission on reducing the deficit -- saying seven GOP senators who once co-sponsored the bill then voted against it for political gain.

And he said some who opposed last year's massive stimulus package and complain it's not helping have also claimed credit in their districts for projects that were funded by the bill.

But Obama also invited Republicans to cooperate with him and the Democratic leadership on education, energy, health care and the deficit -- saying, "Democrats can't do this alone, nor should we."

Two House seats and a Senate seat are in play in New Hampshire this November.
