ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- Gun rights activists are carrying holstered handguns and unloaded rifles at a northern Virginia rally to show their support of the Second Amendment.
About 75 people, many of them carrying firearms, gathered for the start of the "Restore the Constitution" rally Monday morning. The protesters began at Fort Hunt Park, then drove in a convoy to Gravelly Point Park on the Potomac River in Alexandria.
The protesters say they will keep their handguns holstered and rifles unloaded. Organizers say it's the first armed rally in a national park since a law passed allowing people to carry firearms in national parks.
Just miles away in the nation's capital, Second Amendment advocates were protesting at the Washington Monument. They were unarmed, abiding by Washington, D.C.'s strict gun laws.
