WATCH VIDEO OF 'REGRETFUL ROBBER'
Police in Charlotte, North Carolina arrested Everette Edgeworth when he tried to return the money to the Fifth Third bank he'd robbed. Police say he robbed the bank, returned and gave the money back.
Edgeworth is afraid of prison and that is why he brought the money back, but having good intentions after the fact doesn't mean he can take the crime itself back, and the place Edgeworth fears most is now a place where he could spend a long time.
Edgeworth's relatives say he got out of prison a year and a half ago, and although he's been trying hard to find a job, nobody would hire him. They say he has no money, nobody in his life and nowhere to go. They think that combination was the reason for the alleged bank robbery. They also say Edgeworth is "scared to death of prison" and hasn't been the same since he got out, explaining that bringing the money back was likely his way of trying to avoid it again.
Unfortunately, saying "Oops, have the money back" doesn't work with the federal government. Edgeworth is charged with bank robbery and if convicted that could earn him 20 years in prison.
