President Barack Obama got a chance to take out his bag of jokes again Friday, this time at the expense of national journalists. The president was the keynote speaker at the radio and TV correspondents' dinner in Washington, D.C.
The dinner is more of a roast, where speakers tell jokes about people and situations. The president told the audience it was really tough coming up with some new hits for this crowd.
"I have to admit though, it wasn't easy coming up with with fresh material for this dinner. A few nights ago I was up tossing and turning, trying to figure out exactly what to say. Finally, when I couldn't get back to sleep, I rolled over and asked Brian Williams what he thought," said Obama.
He then went on, "this dinner conflicts with my date night. I was supposed to be going out with Michelle for Thai food in Bangkok."
He also took shot at the auto industry "I've said all along I have no ambition to run a auto company. I'm not the salesman-in-chief. Gm will rise and fall on the quality of its product...like the taut athletic design of the new Buick Enclave. Its French seamed leather and warm wood tones make the Enclave more than transportation. It's a modern driver's retreat. Come on work with me here...I've got cars to move people."
On a more serious note, the president thanked the journalists for getting the news of the day out to people all over the free world and for their fair and unbiased reporting.
