The term "Negro" will be a part of the 2010 U.S. Census, as first reported by theGrio on Tuesday. For many African-Americans, the word brings back painful memories of segregation and inequality.

Others say the term is simply outdated.

On question No. 9 on the form, respondents are given the following answer choices to identify their race: "White; Black, African-American or Negro; American Indian or Alaska Native."

David A. Wilson, managing editor of theGrio.com appeared on the Rachel Maddow Show to discuss the controversial term and its inclusion on the 2010 census.
