The family of a man who was shot to death outside a northeast Houston convenience store are hoping police can catch the killer with help from surveillance pictures taken on Tuesday.
The robbery and shooting happened at about 5 p.m. Monday.
The victim's grandmother said words couldn't describe the pain she feels after losing her 30-year-old grandson, Kirk Oliver Dailey, to a senseless act of violence.
The store manager said that Dailey had just cashed an anticipation loan for his tax return when three men stopped him outside.
"He's struggling. The next one ... they shoot him down on the ground," Dailey's uncle said.
Surveillance video shows one one of the robbers fishing through Dailey's pockets after shooting him several times.
The check was for $4,000, but police said the robbers did not get any of the money.
However, Dailey's uncle, who did not want to be identified, said the men did escape with Dailey's wallet.
"Right now, I can't think straight because me and him was real close," he said.
Dailey is a Jamaican immigrant who worked near the ship channel at a pipe company for several years.
His family said he was a hard worker who had never been in any trouble.
Dailey's relatives said they couldn't say the same for the robbers.
"They don't want to work. They just want to stick up people, shoot people in the back, take their money -- no, that's wrong," the uncle said.
Relatives said they did not recognize the robbers in the surveillance video, but hope someone else will.
"I want them to get them because you can't go around robbing people and shooting them in the back. You can't do that," the uncle said.
Dailey leaves behind two children -- a 1-year-old and a 6-year-old.
The gunmen were last seen in an older-model, gray, four-door Chevrolet or Oldsmobile, and a gold, two-door Chevrolet, possibly a Monte Carlo, police said.
