RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – Actor-producer Tim Reid is sharing his recent bout with prostate cancer to encourage fellow African-American men to become proactive about their health.
Reid gave the keynote speech at the African-American Men’s Health Forum, held over the weekend at Richmond’s Arthur Ashe Jr. Athletic Center.
The annual forum offers free screenings, consultations with doctors and expert information on health issues. Those who attend are urged to spread the word about the benefits of preventive health care.
Reid said an annual exam six years ago allowed doctors to catch his cancer in time.
Perhaps best known from the sitcom “WKRP in Cincinnati,” Reid also created the critically acclaimed series “Frank’s Place.” He released a documentary about black veterans last year.
