Girls night out is good for the soul but according to new research, it can pack on the pounds.
Nakiba Worley says she's trying to get back on the diet wagon after celebrating her 35th birthday, for 3 weeks.
"When you're with friends, it's just whatever. Everyone's indulging, everyone is having a good time and before you know it, you've eaten a whole plate of food after the appetizer and ordering a dessert," Worley said.
The study, published in the journal "Appetite" observed 469 young women and men and found that when women ate together, they consumed at least 100 more calories.
"You may let your guard down a little more than you would in mixed company, but again because you want to relax, doesn't mean that you have to splurge or overindulge," Dr. Mildred McAfee said.
More than 600 calories on average, on ladies night.
The study also found women ate considerably less on a date with a man.
"We tend to pull back a bit, trying to be all timid and eat all cute," Worley said.
Nakiba says eating right is a mental game and the temptations never stop.
