Joe Frazier became heavyweight champion, Morehouse College was founded and Huey P. Newton was born; this is an incredibly historic week by any standard. The slideshow below takes a look a back on some of the pivotal cultural moments that have occurred this week in African-American history.

On February 13, 1988, Michael Jackson, purchased a Santa Ynez CA ranch. He later named it Neverland (and it housed an amusement park, a full size movie theatre, and a zoo).

February 19, 1942, the Army Air Corps' all African-American 100th Pursuit Squadron, later designated a fighter squadron, was activated at Tuskegee Institute. The squadron served honorably in England and in other regions of the European continent during World War II.
