Andrew Young decries infighting at SCLC group

ATLANTA (AP) -- Civil rights icon Andrew Young says he has little use for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, where he once worked alongside the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Today, infighting and allegations of financial mismanagement are threatening to undermine the social justice group King co-founded in 1957. Young says the fight is not over a movement, but an organization. He says "If anybody is doing anything that is a movement, or the possibility of a movement, I would be glad to support it. But I'm not interested in organizations. None of them. Except the NAACP," the oldest U.S. civil rights group, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. In April, separate factions that both claimed to be the SCLC's board of directors met hundreds of miles (kilometers) apart, and each said they made moves toward saving the group. _Copyright 2010 The Associated Press._
