Barbershop Buzz: Can Spike Lee make a comeback?

After a three year hiatus from Hollywood, it was recently announced that award winning director Spike Lee was chosen to direct the American remake of Chan-Wook Park's acclaimed South Korean revenge thriller, Oldboy.

Oldboy is the story of a South Korean man, who was trapped and imprisoned for nearly 15 years. One day, without explanation, the man is released from isolation and back into society, only to find himself in a web of violence and lies. He immediately seeks revenge on his captors and attempts to piece his life back together while beginning a new romance with a woman much younger than himself.

Thor and I Am Legend screenwriter, Mark Protosevich is slated to assist Lee in retelling this new American thriller.

In addition to Oldboy, earlier this week Spike Lee used his Twitter to announce another "Spike Lee Joint" in production.

"Wake Up. I been up since 430am. On the way to the set of THE NEW SPIKE LEE JOINT," he tweeted Monday. "Today is 1st Day of Shooting. Awwwwwwwwwwww Sheeeeeeeeeeeeet."

In his new 'joint', reportedly titled Red Hook Summer, Lee will reprise his classic Do the Right Thing character, Mookie. Named after the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, the film will feature a man from Atlanta who goes to spend the summer in the section of Brooklyn.

Mookie will mark Lee's first appearance in one of his own films since he took the minor role of John Jeffries in his 1999 film, Summer of Sam.

Do the Right Thing, was nominated for best screenplay in the 1990 Academy Awards, but lost to Bruce Beresford's Driving Miss Daisy featuring Morgan Freeman.

Lee's last major feature film was the 2008 World War II drama Miracle at St. Anna, grossing less than 8 million at the box office, although he has kept busy collaborating with others to make several independent documentaries.

With all his recent buzz and excitement, we wanted to see how the guys at the barbershop felt about Lee and his upcoming projects, and what they enjoy most about his movies.
