Republican suggests Obama may have been aborted if it were free
12:15 PM on 07/17/2009
Yesterday on the house floor, Republican Representative Todd Tiahrt made a case against using public funds for abortions. He feared that with publicly funded abortions young impoverished mothers would be encouraged to terminate their pregnancies.
"If you think of it in human terms, there is a financial incentive that would be put in place, paid for by tax dollars, that would encourage...single parents, living below the poverty level, to have the opportunity for a free abortion. If you take that scenario and apply it to many of the great minds we have today, who would we have been deprived of?"
Rep. Tiahrt then insinuated that President Barack Obama and Justice Clarence Thomas, two African American politicans, might not be in existence if their mothers had the opportunity for free abortions.
