Caught on tape: "Unnecessary" force used on juvenile inmates
11:18 AM on 07/15/2009
** Watch surveillance footage of the incident. **
An incident at a Jacksonville, Florida juvenile detention center that was caught on video has cost four corrections officers their job. This incident was captured last September and the video has just been released.
On the video you can see officers approaching several inmates trying to gain control of what some are calling a riot that broke out in the facility. However, that effort just went too far, according to the Jacksonville sheriff who said some of the officers used "unnecessary" force against some inmates who were in handcuffs at the time.
Four of the officers involved were let go after the sheriff reviewed the incident saying he wasn't going to tolerate that behavior.
The same sheriff fired another police officer last Friday after that officer shot a man during a burglary investigation. Burglary charges were not filed against the suspect.
