SOMERVILLE, N.J. (AP) -- Retired NBA star Jayson Williams is heading back to a New Jersey courtroom.

Williams wants a judge on Monday to delay sentencing him for covering up the shooting of a hired driver more than seven years ago.

Prosecutors want Williams behind bars because of recent reports of erratic behavior, including his arrest for assault in a North Carolina bar and an altercation with police in a New York City hotel room.

The 41-year-old has been free on bail since the 2002 killing of Costas Christofi.

Williams was convicted in 2004 of covering up the slaying at his mansion. But sentencing has been delayed pending his retrial on a reckless manslaughter count.

Defense attorneys are seeking to overturn the cover-up conviction on grounds of racial bias.
